Weight, Weight ~ Wanna Hear A Secret?

I am now 230 miles into my journey. And even though I know I have thousands of miles to go, I am stoked!

Yesterday was weigh-in, and over the course of 7 weeks I've managed to lose 16.2 pounds.  Not too shabby.  And in hindsight, not too difficult.  (As a disciple of the Church of Jinx, I realize the hex I just inflicted upon myself but what can ya do..it's out there now.  Come and get me Universe.)

I was asked yesterday, during my WW meeting, what I was doing to continue to be successful, and it was a hard question to answer.  I do lots of things.

First, I put an end the war.  My body was my enemy and I hated my enemy. I realized that this war, like most others, could have no winner. We're now in peace talks.

We negotiate, compromise and enjoy photo ops much more than we used to.

Second, I've tried to learn to forgive (not forget!) my mistakes quickly. It's easy to make a mistake, and even easier to beat yourself down for it.  And being down on myself is how I got here to begin with.  (Oooohh...so that's how vicious cycles work!)

I try to realize my mistake, mark it, and try not to make it again.

I understand it's a learning process, and some steps must be repeated in order to be learned.  Have patience and forgiveness above all other things.  Maybe having a small child around has helped me get in touch with my (remedial) inner child? The tao of toddlers?

Most importantly though, I think it's crucial in any successful weightloss effort, to be surrounded by positive images and ideas.  Read healthy cookbooks and fitness magazines, find a blog ~ or start one up, that gives you freedom and the voice you might not otherwise have the courage to use.

Be present in your life.  Don't just go through the motions.  If you're sitting around, watching TV, bored and channel-surfing like the Big Couch Kahuna, get up! Quit kvetching and start moving ---dancing, cleaning, walking, trampoline jumping -- whatever!

Be in the light and soon you'll become part of it.

It sounds sooo easy, but I know it isn't.  But, I also know that I'm not perfect and to that end noboby is...even the healthiest, happiest, most glamourous people with the shiniest hair and the whitest teeth eat french fries or a piece of cheesecake every once in awhile.

They do it and they call it living.
